AAA Umpiring
Hello Coaches and youth umpires. Please let me know if you see any obvious scheduling conflicts, such as being scheduled to umpire during your own game, and I will reschedule you. The adult names listed are certified coaches and eligible umpires given to me from SCLL. The team manager is ultimately responsible for their team’s assignments. If one of the scheduled coaches does not receive this e-mail, is not able to umpire an assigned game or does not know that as a coach in SCLL umpiring is a requirement, please find a replacement for that situation. Adults will do the plate once and then do the bases thereafter, unless you have a youth that is unable to work the plate on a given night. Coaches may not give their assigned games to a youth. The league requires one adult in each umpiring situation. Please provide feedback on the youth umpire’s performance as that will help determine who gets playoff assignments. If a youth is incapable of doing the plate in your opinion, let me know after the fact, and we will keep him on the bases. If you have “no shows”, or other issues, please let me know and we will replace them. Also, please remember to support our youth at all times and to not over rule a call unless help is requested by the youth as discussed by the District umpire during training this past weekend. Youth should consider this a job assignment and understand that any youth can be removed from the schedule for performance related issues, non-attendance, at the discretion of the league. If there is a rain out, you stay with your assigned game when it is re-scheduled. The field hotline is 594-2626. Please call for field status. Home team managers are responsible for calling and confirming scheduled youth umpires the day before your game. Home team managers are also responsible for youth umpire vouchers. Team vouchers are in the Arguello snack shack with the team name on it. YOUTH ARE REPONSIBLE FOR TRADING THEIR GAME WHEN A CONFLICT ARISES. Youth should NOT WAIT UNTIL THE DAY OF THE GAME, unless an emergency occurs. Email me or call if you are truly in a bind. Please give new pitchers 8 warm up pitches and 5 between innings. CALL A GENEROUS AND CONSISTENT STRIKE ZONE. Umpires should enforce hustling on and off the field and the District protocol of 2 minutes between innings. If a catcher is not ready have and assigned bench guy warm up the pitcher. If the bench is empty, have a fielder warm up the pitcher, with a mask on. COUCHES MAY NOT WARM UP THE PITCHERS. Check the equipment box game day for indicator if you do not have one. Please only take one. Coaches you should have indicators in your bags. Rule books have been distributed. If you have any issues with umpire gear, please contact Nick Spina or me and we will take care of it. Nick has placed appropriate and working youth and adult gear at the fields where you will play. YOUTH are to wear the full mask hockey type helmet behind the plate. If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail. Thanks and have a great year, Lee Brandenburg
