San Carlos baseball choices after SCLL
Life on the diamond doesn’t end after 60-feet.  In fact, for many, it is just beginning.  San Carlos Pony and Joe DiMaggio Baseball teams have won multiple NorCal and State Titles over the last 10 years.

In San Carlos there are 3 more levels of baseball remaining for those wishing to further their baseball skills.  They are; Pony League, Colt League and Joe DiMaggio.  Pony & Colt are part of the same National organization known as Pony Baseball similar to how SCLL houses different age groups.  Here is some information about those programs.

San Carlos Pony
Ages: 13 & 14 (typically 7th, 8th & some 9th graders)
Distances: 80’ base paths, 54’ pitching distance
Overview: This is a transitional league.  The focus is on preparing players to go onto high school level play.  The San Carlos League is typically comprised of teams of 12-players each.  Not necessarily every child that signs up will make a team.  There are cuts made based upon the number of sign-ups and the number of available spots.  Cuts are made based upon ability after a league wide tryout.  There are Minimum Play requirements in Pony.  All players must play 2 defensive innings and receive 1 turn at-bat per game.  Each team usually plays two games and has one practice per week.  The season runs about the same time as the little league season.

PONY BASEBALL SIGNUPS WILL OCCUR  IN DECEMBER AT SAN CARLOS LITTLE LEAGUE SIGN-UP’S IN 2011

San Carlos Colt
Ages: 15 & 16 (typically high school players)
Distances: 90’ base paths, 60’ pitching distance
Overview: Colt is a competitive league which serves to improve the skills of many high school athletes.  It is also great for those baseball players who didn’t make their high school teams or chose to play a different school sport.  There are no minimum play requirements in Colt.  San Carlos League will typically only have 1-2 Colt teams.  Cuts are made based upon ability after a league wide tryout. The season begins after the High School Junior Varsity and Freshman programs have finished...usually around May 15th and finish by the end of June.  District and Section play begin in July.

San Carlos Joe DiMaggio

Ages: 17 & 18
Distances: 90’ base paths, 60’ pitching distance
Overview: Joe DiMaggio Baseball is a competitive league for high school and first year college players.  There is one team in San Carlos, but that team generally does have a few players from other cities.   Joe DiMaggio is an invitation only team that competes up and down the peninsula.  It’s season runs from the end of May through the end of July, including the State Championship Tournament.
