This league begins after the playoffs for the regular Little League season have been completed. The league is sanctioned under the Little League of America Training and Development Program and is intended to be an extension of Little League play with an emphasis on further developing the skills of Little League players. The following “guidelines” have been established for the operation of this league:
1). Players who played in either the Majors, TRIPLE A and DOUBLE A during spring SCLL season are eligible to participate in the Summer League.
2). There are no standings or won/lost records
3). There are expanded rosters that provide flexibility for vacations, tournament play, etc.
4). This is a fun league featuring modest competition and an emphasis on learning and skill improvement.
As Managers and Coaches please try to support this program. It gives all the players extra field time and enables them to meet players from other leagues. This is a great stepping stone if you think a player will be leaving on league and moving up the next year.
In general, the rules for Summer League follow the same rules as the regular season. Below are a list of rules for summer league that supersede the regular season rules:
1). No pitcher may pitch more than 1 inning maximum per game. Use at least 6 pitchers per game.
2). Rotate pitchers from game to game to give all players who want to pitch an equal chance to pitch.
3). The maximum number of pitches per pitcher, per game shall be 40 for majors and 35 for AAA, no exceptions.
4). Keeping score is optional and not required.
5). Both teams shall be given an opportunity to bat in the last inning provided time allows for it.
6). Games shall be 6 innings maximum, or 1 hour 45 minutes long. Try to be off the field 10 minutes before the start of the next game.
7). The entire team roster must bat. If all players show up, all players will bat before anyone bats twice.
8). On defense, all players must sit out once before any player sits out twice. All players must sit out twice before any player sits out three times.
9). Encourage all players to have equal playing time in the infield and in the outfield. No player shall play the same position more than twice per game except for catcher. No player shall be forced to play catcher if they don't want to.
10). The fence along a base line extends indefinitely along an "imaginary fence line” parallel to the foul line, from home plate to the foul pole. Any ball that does not pass beyond the "imaginary fence line" remains in play. Any ball that lands beyond the "imaginary fence line" on an overthrow is out of play. Balls out of play are dead balls and the runner is awarded the base he was headed towards plus one extra base.
11). Pass balls or wild pitches past the catcher are live balls and runners may advance at their own risk.
1). Have one adult from each team umpire. One umpire behind the pitcher and one in the field.
2). Home team sets up the field and visiting team takes care of the field after the game.
3). Keep copies of each player’s medical forms at each game.
4). Have fun.
